Keeping up with SQL Skills

Inevitably one has to store data. And when people pay you money to store data, its usually in a SQL Database.

In code, i stick to pattern and structures I know work to get clean code out to the client. I spend time on weekend and after hours 'playing' with new patterns, methods and 3rd party tools to help me.

However, SQL seems to go onto the back burner. Ye I know about CTE and SQL CLR, but I'm still doing basic CRUD operations and potentialially under utilising a very powerful suit of tools.


I came across T-SQL Challenges, http://beyondrelational.com/puzzles/default.aspx ... Im hoping, like http://projecteuler.net/,  it inspires me to think out of the box  and recreate and the interest I had in SQL  when I started out in development.

AMD Phenom II x6 1055T and 1090T

AMD released two six-core processors:

The AMD Phenom II X6 1090T clocked at a base clock of 3.2 GHz and the AMD Phenom II X6 1055T at 2.8 GHz. 

Now that second processor, the Phenom II X6 1055T, is in fact even more surprising as it is a budget six-core processor, the 1055T at 2.8 GHz which is going to cost 199 USD. That's right, a six-core CPU clocked at 2800 MHz for less than 200 USD. That should be about R2300 when it lands here....

Hopefully in the next month the processors will land in ZA. Ill be keeping my eye on the dealers.
